Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service, along with other statewide service-oriented and disability awareness programs, will host a series of activities honoring AmeriCorps Disability Day on June 26 at the West Virginia Power game at Appalachian Power Park.
All AmeriCorps members and alumni are encouraged to attend. T-shirts will be given to the first 1,000 attendees and informational booths promoting volunteerism, community service and disability awareness will be displayed throughout Appalachian Power Park.

WHY?: AmeriCorps Week (May 11 through 18) salutes AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact and encourages bringing more West Virginians into service. AmeriCorps Disability Day (May 15, 2008) spotlights the various abilities that all West Virginians bring to the community table and recognizes the contributions made by our citizens, including the more than 394,000 West Virginians (over 23 percent of the state’s population) who have a physical, mental, or other type of disability. Buck Night – Attendees can get tickets, food and beverages for $1 each.
