Business leaders serve on community boards and committees, and encourage employees to participate in volunteer projects. However, until now businesses and labor organizations in our state have not had a resource to support their efforts around volunteering. Gayle C. Manchin, First Lady of West Virginia and Commissioner on the West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service has joined several business leaders to create the first West Virginia Business Volunteer Council (BVC). This initiative is dedicated to supporting West Virginia’s private sector employers and employees in their volunteer and community involvement efforts. Established in April 2006, the founding members of the Council’s steering committee believe that volunteerism is essential to the well-being of West Virginia communities.
Mission:
The BVC is a coalition of businesses, associations, labor organizations, and professionals that provides leadership in meeting community needs through business and employee volunteerism. We believe that volunteerism is essential to the well-being of the community and that it is good business to engage employee volunteers in meeting community needs.
Objectives:
- Promote employee volunteerism in West Virginia
- Provide professional education resources, and networking opportunities for employee volunteer managers
- Inform membership of local needs and issues
- Provide leadership and expertise in business and labor volunteerism
“Business and labor volunteers make a difference in our community.”
