Carpetbag Theatre Ensemble - This impressive group out of Knoxville, Tennessee introduced us to an innovative new multi-media storytelling process called Three Trains Running that had us laughing, singing and chatting with one another about our conference experiences.
Networking Opportunities - The nearly 400 people who attended this year's conference caught up with old friends and made new ones from among the government officials, business and community leaders, nonprofit and national service staff/volunteers, and members of faith-based organizations who attended the conference.
Special Sessions - Many conference participants attended one of several special sessions, including the YouthService LeadershipAcademy, Disaster Leadership Academy, Business Volunteer Institute, or the DisabilityPre-Conference session this year.
Diverse Workshop Topics - Conference participants got new ideas on resource development, developing personal leadership skills, managing volunteers, and using new media to market their organizations, just to name a few. Operation READ - As the Faces of Leadership service project and statewide book drive, Operation READ presented a variety of participation opportunities for West Virginians and conference attendees. Email Amanda Gustason for information about the success of the service project or call 304-855-5402.
Exhibits and Showcase Gallery - On Wednesday, July 16, conference participants visited exhibits for 15-minute "mini-workshops" about programs, new initiatives, and success stories. Conference participants learned about programs and initiatives like the 211 Information and Referral, the A lzheimer’s Association, the American Civil Liberties Union of WV, AmeriCorps funding opportunities, Bespoke Volunteer Management Software, the Brushy Fork Institute, the File of Life, Governor’s Representatives, Military OneSource, Operation Right Choice, Regeneration Inc., Shawnee Girl Scout Council, The Grant Advantage, WV Center for Civic Life, the WV Civics Literacy Council, WV REDI/Cities Readiness Initiative, WV Sustainable Communities Project, WVU Division of Social Work and the Dollar Energy Fund.
