About Volunteer West Virginia!!!

West Virginians are known for helping their neighbors. People of all ages who like to volunteer can use volunteerWV.org to find opportunities compatible with their interests, skills and availability. Non-profit organizations, corporate volunteer programs, colleges, schools and faith-based groups benefit from this easy way to recruit volunteers. And should a disaster occur, this new volunteer-matching system provides up-to-date information on volunteer opportunities that will help victims rebuild their lives. volunteerWV.org, a program of the West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service, serves as a clearinghouse of information, training and volunteer opportunities.

A three-year grant from the US Department of Commerce Technology Opportunities Program allowed the Commission to build this web-based volunteer matching system and begin a network of organizations willing to provide leadership in their communities for effective nonprofit and volunteer management. volunteerWV.org improves the capacity of the non-profit sector in West Virginia by providing ways to pool information and resources to serve more people. And because it pioneers a statewide volunteer emergency response infrastructure, West Virginians will respond to natural disasters and national emergencies more effectively.

The volunteerWV.org program:

1. Recruits and trains organizations to serve as leaders in volunteer management and training in their counties or regions and to act as points of contact for volunteerism. Each agency will receive a one-time $5,000 seed grant.
2. Manages a user-friendly database of volunteer and USA Freedom Corps opportunities.
3. Provides training and technical assistance on volunteer recruitment, management, recognition, and retention.
